Magnetism is a property that had been missingfrom graphene’s impressive list of physical properties – until now. Owing to its unconventional magnetic properties, graphene has been touted as a promising material for spintronics applications. The ambition of the EU-funded SPRING project is to develop an all-graphene platform, where spins can be used for transporting, storing and processing information. Researchers from different disciplines will collaborate to fabricate atomically precise open-shell graphene nanostructures, and manipulate their electron spin and charge, and nuclear spin state. The aim is to test the potential of graphene as a fundamental building block for spintronic devices.

Ohmic contact between SWNT and Mo is an efficient spin injector/detector. R spin can be modulated with gate voltages and external magnetic fields. The conventional nano-electronics are confronting many bottlenecks and spin-based devices have become the candidate for the next-generation nano-electronics (spintronics).A semiconducting channel contacted with two ferromagnetic electrodes constitute a spin field effect transistor proposed by Datta and Das in $1990$, which is a fundamental device in spintronics, seeing the following schematic. A new design based on the spinFET proposed by Datta-Das was fabricated, using a channel defined by etching on a 2DEG material and nanomagnets as top-gates. The magnetotransports properties were measured at low temperatures. Magnetoresistance changes with different behaviors were measured in different configurations and the presence of hysteresis showed the action of the nanomagntes.
